VPS is a Zurich-based office for architecture. The practice operates at the intersection of design, structure, economy, climate, and energy, developing architecture through  close interdisciplinary collaboration and precise spatial thinking. VPS seeks to establish architecture as an integrative process in which typology, construction, environmental performance, and economic logic are considered simultaneously rather than sequentially.

RE:MIX
The Holcim cement plant in Siggenthal is a place of both tradition and innovation. RE:MIX complements this site with a new visitor centre, emphasizing experiment and dialogue. It is positioned as a new entrance facing the complex, integrated into the identity-defining industrial fabric of the area by it its warehouse typology, offering efficiency and generosity. For its construction the centuries-old concept of “Spolia” is reinterpreted: a combination of reusable precast concrete elements designed for disassembly are combined with reused ceiling elements. Columns are cut and stacked from the previous foundation slab. The façade is made from raw material sourced from the nearby quarry. Inner walls are cladded with panels from the casting process.

The scenographic concept (XS–XL) and pedagogical formats (Laboratory in Dialogue) build on the idea of “Spolia” and aim to diversify the debate around cement and concrete. The experimental workshop character becomes a constant companion throughout the visitor centre and its open-air laboratory, encouraging active participation and synergies of content and visitors. RE:MIX itself becomes an exhibition piece presenting an applied catalogue of sustainable solutions in material and technique, proposing an attitude of curiosity and collaboration.
